Support E-bikes in Durham
Ideas for supporting and encouraging
the use of e-bikes in Durham. Note that some of these
suggestions
will be of benefit to other initiatives such as increased use of
bicycles, electric cars or public transit.
- Government (various levels)
- designate/expand bike routes and lanes on streets
- expand bike paths
- set/clarify usage rules for e-bikes on bike paths

- provide
safe and secure parking, charging stations. Charging stations
would be particularly practical where an e-bike may be parked
for
longers times such as at a restaurant, movie theatre or the mall.
Note that e-bike parking does not need to be outside and
might
make good use of an empty unit in a mall.
- offer home delivery of larger items for e-bike shoppers
- support/encourage e-bike use by employees
- make E-bikes available to use in daily business activities
(one of our members uses their e-bike for a courier-like business)
- design
a public charging station that includes the means to keep chargers dry
and secure. E-bike chargers are typically separate form the
e-bikes themselves and are not weather proofed.

- e-bike rescue (emergency pick-up
of e-bikes after a flat, loss of power or other
calamity)
