Who we Are
The Durham E-bike Association is a voluntarily formed group of
individuals who own and operate e-bikes [or intend to do so.]
The Association does not include nor is it sponsored by any
vendors of e-bikes.
As a group we see an opportunity and need for a user feedback
to regulators, manufacturers,
municipalities,
the police and other stakeholders on the
practicalities of using
e-bikes in Durham Region .
To date the group has been operating informally without a constitution
or budget. Any resources required for our activities have
been provided through the contributions of the members. We
have been able to agree on a
mission and will soon have a constitution.
In spite of the informality, a few of the members have taken
on
identifiable ongoing roles in the association as follows:
- Jason Carter,
Founder and main organizer, Facebook group administrator
- Wendy Gelineau,
Secretary
- James Frost
& Les Schryburt, Technical Resources
- Audrey Sirrs,
Liason with the City of Oshawa
- Jay Kipping,
Membership
- Jan Lewis,
Treasurer
- Warren
Christiani, Webmaster
In addition we have community support:
The rest of the membership looks like this [subject to revision as the
group gets
larger and the truth gets out there.]
- Most (> 90%) ride scooter style e-bikes.
- Average age is [estimated at] more than 40.
- In spite of the name most members live in
Oshawa. Two members live in Whitby. We have not yet
heard from anyone in Ajax or Pickering but are looking forward to it.
We do have a member
or two in Orono.
- Close to equal numbers of women and men.
- There are some married couples.
