Mission
Based on our collective experience in riding e-bikes,
the members of the Association believe that e-bikes
can
provide a viable alternative technology for personal transport
in
the Regional Municipality of Durham [Ontario], and that the expanded
use of e-bikes should be built into any local transportation plan.
We have taken it on as our mission to establish e-bikes as a
viable and visible part of the transportation mix in Durham.
The
Association intends to achieve this mission by directing
our volunteer resources and creativity to the following
activities:
Promoting –
- the viability of e-bikes in the
face of a future that
may
have: depleted resources; stressed infrastructure; a threatened natural
environment
- the use of e-bikes as a safe, reliable and logical
choice
for transportation in the Durham Region
- the mass-use of e-bikes as a critical goal for all
stakeholders in the Durham Region
- e-bikes through the use of visible promotional tools
Educating –
- the general public about e-bikes and the Durham E-bike
Association
- our members with regards to e-bike maintenance, safety,
driving skills and where to find legal information
- our members on the dangers of e-bike modifications that
stray from government approved specifications
- government, community leaders and law enforcement where
necessary
- all of the above stakeholders regarding erroneous
perceptions or conceptions about e-bikes. This may include but is not
limited to: the erroneous conception that an e-bike is a high-speed
motor vehicle; the erroneous perception that e-bikes are not safe to use
Liaising –
- with regional police, government and other community
stakeholders in all applicable areas regarding e-bikes
Advocating –
- for the permanent legalization of e-bikes, as recognized by
other Canadian provinces
- for local, city and municipal governments, where
applicable, to clarify their position on e-bikes in laws and bylaws
- for additional bike lanes to be added in the Durham Region
- for
the participation of community stakeholders in Durham E-bike
Association events, so that they will better understand our mission
- support services for e-bikes including: emergency charging
stations, repair services.
