Our brief but glorious
history:
- Week of Aug 6, 2007; Jason Carter has an idea to
form the Durham E-Bike Association. Creates Facebook group "Durham
E-bike Association". Prepares flyers and
leaves them at Easy Auto in Whitby and Daymak in Oshawa among other
places.
- Aug 11: First members join. Warren
Christiani (webmaster) discovers flyer when he takes his bike in to
have a flat tire repaired at Easy Auto. James Frost joins
shortly thereafter.
- Sept 10: First face to face meeting.
Coffee Time in Whitby. Six members in attendance.
Start of plan for e-bike rally.
- Oct 10: Newspaper article about e-bikes and photo
of some association members appears in Whitby/Oshawa This Week just in
time for the rally. [This was also Ontario election day.]
- Oct 14: First Durham
E-bike Association Rally . Seventeen e-bikes
participate and 'charge' on a 15 km tour of Oshawa. Good time
was had by all.
- Oct 21: The website
www.durhamebikeassociation.org is launched.
- Oct 27: First of our regular Saturday morning
socials at Isabella's Chocolate Cafe.
- Nov 12: First planning meeting at Minac's
building. Fifteen members in attendance.
- Dec 10: Agreed on design of logo
- Jan 26, 2008: First annual New Year's
party (better late than never!)
- Feb 27: Association has a table at the Energy
Efficiency/Conservation Fair at the Legends Center in Oshawa [Jim Frost
rides his bike there in -13 degrees (Celsius) temperature.]
- Apr 20, Association has a table at the Earth Day Fair at the Legends Center in Oshawa
